Hernia Symptoms, Men

Hernia is usually caused when some strain is put on the body like lifting heavy objects, coughing or sneezing very hard etc. It is treatable, but once the hernia is treated, there are still chances of its re-occurrence. It is advised to consult a doctor if you are experiencing any symptoms of hernia, because if not treated on time it can prove to be deadly. Hernias occur both in men and women, but their occurrence is large in men. The symptoms of hernia are usually the same in men as they are in women. Men usually avoid going to the doctor fearing the surgical procedures.

The male patients will most commonly experience a sharp and stabbing pain in the groin region. But sometimes the pain is only a dull ache in the groin or lower abdomen. However it is better to consult a doctor if any discomfort or pain is being experienced in the lower abdomen or groin.
The male patients of hernia might also notice bulges or lumps around the groin area. Moreover, they may have frequent occurrences of nauseous feelings along with vomiting because of the protrusion of the intestine into the stomach. Constipation or difficulty in bowel movements is another of the symptoms of hernia in men due to the intestines getting blocked. The male patient of hernia might also have difficulty in urinary functions. Hernias which are large may put stress on the urethra or the bladder thus making the urinary process quite difficult or sometimes even impossible. Moreover the swelling around the infected area may irritate the area around the urethra, resulting in a burning sensation when the patient attempts to urinate. Hernias might also cause sexual dysfunction in the male patients. They might have problems in maintaining an erection or in ejaculation because that area might get blocked and restrict the flow of blood.

Male Hernia Signs and Symptoms

Hernia is any protrusion of the organ tissues through the abdominal wall. It occurs due to the straining of the body caused by lifting something very heavy, sneezing or coughing very hard and in excess. Normally, a hernia is treatable, but it can reoccur most often. A doctor should be consulted immediately as a delay in getting treatment for the hernia can be deadly. Both male and female alike are affected by hernia, but male suffer from it more. The symptoms of a hernia are also almost the same in both genders.

The most common symptom of hernia in male is the acute, sharp pain on the groin area. This pain can also occur in the lower abdominal area. The level of pain can also vary from a sharp, stabbing pain to a dull ache. Nonetheless immediate medical help should be taken in case of occurrence of any pain around the groin or the abdomen.

The symptoms of hernia in male are mainly the protrusions on the groin. Having nausea and vomiting are other symptoms of hernia. Experiencing difficulty with bowel movements and constipation also indicate the presence of hernia, because the bulge causes the intestines to get blocked.

The male patient of hernia experiences issues such as sexual dysfunction. Due to the blockage of blood flow to the tissues, the area does not get its supply of blood causing the male patient to have problems in ejaculation and erection. A problem in urinary functions is also seen in the male hernia patients, because hernia puts pressure on the bladder or the urethra causing the urination process to be difficult. Sometimes the patient finds it difficult to even pass the urine. The area around the urethra may also swell up and the patient feels a burning sensation when he urinates.
